Here you will find the latest classes for botanical art and natural science illustration classes and workshops taught by Mindy Lighthipe. Mindy has taught at the New York Botanical Garden, The Center for Contemporary Art, The Thomas Center and the Museum of Natural History in Gainesville, FL. as well as other schools in the USA and abroad. When: Wednesday & Thursday- March 28 & 29

Time: 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

Learn how flowers are broken down into basic shapes, making them easier to draw. Using simple shapes like cones, tubulars, cup- shaped, clustered, and trumpets, drawing flowers becomes much easier. The first day  learn proportion, measuring, surface contour, value and lighting, and composition to create a drawing that is ready for color. In day 2 turn the drawing into a painting using watercolor, gouache or colored pencils. Through demonstrations, lectures, critiques and hands-on exercises students are guided through the steps necessary for a successful botanical illustration. Students should bring with them to class fresh flowers and potted specimens to work from as well as a list of supplies provided upon registration. All levels are welcome.
